Water Service Technician – Leak Detection
About The Role
We are seeking an experienced Municipal Water Leak Detection & Field Technician to deliver acoustic and tracer gas leak detection services across municipalities, infrastructure projects and agricultural systems. This is a field-driven role requiring strong hands-on experience with municipal water distribution systems, the ability to work independently, and a willingness to travel extensively.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform leak detection on municipal water distribution systems using acoustic, tracer, or other methodologies.
- Conduct proactive and reactive water surveys
- Support pre-commissioning services and infrastructure testing
- Inspect, troubleshoot, and assess:
- Hydrants
- Valves
- Distribution systems
- Document and report findings clearly for clients and internal teams
- Work outdoors in varying conditions across multiple job sites
- Travel regularly to project locations across Alberta and British Columbia
- Assist with shop and office tasks as required
Qualifications
Required:
- Legally eligible to work in Canada
- Hands-on experience with municipal water distribution systems
- Experience with:
- Hydrant maintenance and repair
- Valve operation and system isolation
- Field-based troubleshooting experience in water systems
- Strong ability to work independently in the field
- Clear and professional reporting/documentation skills
- Strong communication and organizational skills
Asset:
- Leak detection experience (acoustic, correlators, tracer gas, etc.)
- Background in:
- Utility contracting
- Water infrastructure installation or maintenance
- Pre-commissioning or pressure testing
- Experience working across multiple job sites or traveling roles
- Certifications such as Ground Disturbance Level II, WHMIS, and First Aid
Pre-Hire Requirements
- Satisfactory driving abstract, criminal record check, and drug & alcohol test
- Valid passport or the ability to obtain one
